š New Mexico's biggest oil and gas spill of the first quarter of 2025 occurred on February 7th when DCP Operating had a pipeline blowout that released 18,647,000,000 (18.6 billion) cubic feet of natural gas into the air.
š„ "Natural gas" is code for methane, which is the primary component of natural gas. Methane is a climate-destroyer, 80x more potent than carbon dioxide for warming the climate system. In the Permian Basin, the highest producing oilfield in the world, methane emissions are out of control.
