Fracking waste is NOT water.

Science matters. Defend NM Water.

Roberto Roibal spoke: “Fracking waste isn’t just salty—it is up to six times saltier than seawater and laced with radioactive elements.

Radium levels measure three times higher than what qualifies as radioactive waste.

Officials have no answer when asked how they would prevent this toxic cocktail from contaminating the very resources they claim to protect.”

Today, Thursday, February 20th HB 311, the Reclaimed Water Act will be heard in House Agriculture, Acequias and Water Resources.

Sponsored by Rep. Nathan Small, this bill is an attempt to make an end run around the Water Quality Act and the Water Quality Control Commission by moving the regulation of so-called “Reclaimed” Produced Water outside normal oversight.

Saturday Feb 22nd HB 137, the Governor’s Strategic Water Supply Act will be heard in House Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources.

The Governor continues to push for $75 million in annual public funding to incentivize a private fracking waste treatment industry.

The Strategic Water Supply is dangerous, premature and detracts from the water security initiatives that need funding and attention from New Mexico leaders.
